LOFT YCSEI
The LOFT Youth Centre for Social Enterprise and Innovation is a pioneering multi-use space that fosters creativity, community engagement and entrepreneurship amongst youth in Toronto. Youth involvement in all aspects of the LOFT YCSEI’s operations makes it truly a youth-led initiative, and equips participants with the tools to create change – both in their own lives and in the community. The LOFT YCSEI provides youth with social supports, skills training, mentorship and networking opportunities through programs and employment.
Our three social enterprises are built on the LOFT YCSEI’s foundations in art, music, food access and innovation, and form the core of our employment and skills training programs. Under The Radar Design, the LOFT Sound Studio, and the LOFT Kitchen/boutique/art gallery each provide youth with outlets for artistic expression and the chance to explore career paths, learn marketable skills and overcome employment barriers. The LOFT YCSEI’s enterprises have grown organically out of the LOFT’s original youth engagement initiatives – the acronym stands for Life, Opportunities, Food and Technology – and through the strengths gained from this evolution, assist in contributing to the sustainability of our programs and enterprises.
In addition to on-the-job training, the LOFT YCSEI offers a full range of social supports, providing all youth with access to financial literacy training, housing help, counseling, education options, employment resources and more.
The Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre (CONC) has been providing programming under the LOFT banner since 2001, and the creation of the LOFT Youth Centre for Social Enterprise and Innovation marks a dynamic next step in our evolution. The new space is a hub for the emerging field of social enterprise that is rooted in the local community while facilitating global links. The LOFT YCSEI operates as an arm of CONC, a multi-service non-profit organization and United Way member agency.

Regent Park Community Health Centre - Pathways to Education
RPCHC works with the people who live and work in the area to improve the health and wellbeing of the people who live here and the community as a whole. We offer a wide range of services and programs – some of them accessible by everybody, some of them more focused, some of them about specific health issues, some of them about building on people’s capacity to take action on common issues impacting health…but all of them about building the health of this dynamic community.
One of the many programs they have is Pathways to Education. Pathways to Education™ provides key supports to ensure that youth living in Regent Park & Moss Park will successfully complete high school, continue on to post-secondary programs and become actively engaged in their career development. Pathways strives to increase the academic retention, attainment and success for high school students. The program works in partnership with parents, community agencies, volunteers, local school boards & staff in high schools to provide four types of support:

Pathways strives to increase the academic retention, attainment and success for high school students. The program works in partnership with parents, community agencies, volunteers, local school boards & staff in high schools to provide four types of support:
- ACADEMIC: Tutoring is provided in five core subjects in a safe, social learning environment 4 nights of the week.
- SOCIAL: Group Mentoring for students in grades 9 and 10, as well as specialty and career mentoring for students in grades 11 and 12 provide a venue for students to participate in and explore academic, social and career opportunities through extra-curricular activities.
- FINANCIAL: Bus tickets tied to school attendance, distributed by our staff, provide students with the means to get to and from high school everyday. A bursary is held in trust until high school graduation and disbursed directly to the accredited public post secondary program upon proof of acceptance.
- ADVOCACY: Student-Parent Support Workers, help build stable relationships between the students, parents, school & community staff by monitoring school attendance, academic progress and program participation. SPSWs work closely with school administration and teachers to address issues impacting academic success & advocating on behalf of the students when the parents are unable to do so themselves.
